Wrongful Convictions

Wrongful Convictions

Research into the prevalence of wrongful convictions has estimated that 4-6% of those incarcerated in the United States are actually innocent and serving time for offenses that they did not commit. Innocent individuals can be sentenced to serve decades behind bars for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Coerced plea deals

  • Eyewitness misidentification

  • False confessions

  • Perjury

  • Inadequate representation

  • Faulty or misleading forensic evidence/junk science/contaminated evidence

  • Plea deals to avoid the death penalty

  • Official misconduct

  • Unreliable informants

  • Implicit and systemic bias on the basis of gender, race/ethnicity, and sexual orientation/identity

For every innocent individual serving time in prison for crimes they did not commit, the guilty remain free. Jennifer is dedicated to challenging wrongful convictions and fighting for justice and freedom for those who have been falsely convicted of crimes they did not commit.
